The English language/Citizenship Ministry at Iglesia Presbiteriana de Valverde started in September of 2008. They are in their 11th year!! Currently, they provide five different levels of English language instruction for adults, two civics and government classes for persons applying for citizenship, one in Spanish and one in English. They have 22 volunteers with the adult program, 4 substitutes and 1 volunteer teacher on call to tutor junior and senior high school students who need help with math. There is also a children’s program, from pre-school to middle school, and two members of the Valverde church help in the nursery. Attendance varies (depending on publicity) with 75-125 adults and around 25 children. Support comes from the Cross-Cultural Covenant Community church members and, during the last two years, from a grant from Montview P.C. The program is free and open to the Hispanic community.
COTH joined the Cross Cultural Covenant Community in 2017. We have several members who volunteer on Saturdays and assist with ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. There are many ways a person can get involved in this ongoing program.
